First in a trilogy, but it doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger. Paranormal and romance. I thought the main character, Darci, was cute and spunky, but I didn't understand at all why she liked the hero. All Adam does is throw money and food at her and then he can't make up his mind if he wants Darci to come with him or stay away. Plus he always talks about her being a child/child-like. I hate that.
The plot seemed far fetched (that's fine) but poorly explained (not cool). I couldn't figure out if magic was supposed to be well known or just a myth. Everyone seemed really ready to believe in it. The cavalry comes in ta-dah, the nick of time, and the explanations are just too tidy on how that happened. I also disliked how the author jumped around in time. All of the sudden, right at the most exciting part, she jumps to "one year later..." and tells the rest all in flash backs. She did this throughout the book, jumping forward a few hours and then using flash backs to fill in.

I have the second book, but I don't think I'm going to read it. I really liked her other romance, "Knight in Shining Armor," but I haven't read anything else by this author. Lots of reviewers said this trilogy was really good, so if you like Deveraux you might like these books. Sadly, I did not.

Jude Deveraux is one of my favorite authors and while she goes away from her usual storyline, she still gives a story that pulls you in with the unexpected. A continuation of the Montgomery family in which the hero falls for a very unusual woman. The love story that flows with humor, suspense and mystery. A good read for all.

Book Description

From A Knight in Shining Armor to The Mulberry Tree, Jude Deveraux's bestsellers sparkle with stunning originality, heartfelt wit, and adventurous passion. Now, this superb storyteller mixes the flavor of a classic fairy tale with a very modern love story -- set in a town locked in the shadows of an abiding evil -- in this imaginative new novel.

Very interesting........kept me glued to every page. Story was very compelling, riveting, exciting and greatly written. Jude Deveraux is one of the best story tellers of all time. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of intense drama, danger, laughter and sadness that this book brings.
