Four short children's books by Rumer Godden, all originally published in the 1950s-60s. "Impunity Jane" has long been a favorite of mine - I wasn't familiar with the others: "The Fairy Doll," "The Story of Holly and Ivy" and "Candy Floss." Set in England, all enter the world of real dolls, who can't do anything for themselves but wish, and real little girls (and boys)with their own problems and desires. Highly recommended.
