This is the early life of Marion Blumenthal Lazan. She was born about 1935 in Germany. Mrs Lazan is an optimist.I went to hear her speak a few years ago.I talked to her personally. Her husband Nathaniel is a saintly man.I could see the love of God in his face. They met after the war in the US. They are Jews. Mrs Lazan talks about World War 2. Her family spent some time in the Bergen Belsen concentration-camp. Marian was fair, blonde and blue eyed. She looked like a German, but due to her Jewish blood she was sent to a concentration camp.Her story is unbelievable and she personally signed my book.

Following Hitler's rise to power,the Blumenthal family--father, mother, Marion, and her brother Albert--were trapped in Nazi Germany. They managed eventually to get to Holland, but soon thereafter it was occupied by the Nazis. For the next six-and-a-half years the Blumenthals were forced to live in refugee, transit, and prison camps. Their story is one of horror and hardship, but it is also a story of courage, hope, and the will to surive.

I am writing this for my daughter, she read the book and really enjoyed it, she liked the character and how strong she was and how she had a desire to live and make it through. Got a real sense of the tragedy of the war and how it affected more than just the Jewish people. She would reccommend this book she says.

This is the third Holocaust book I have read in the last year and is undoubtedly the best. It is a short book, but very well written.

It was 'ok' but not as interesting as I thought. wouldn't read it again or reccomend it

This edition is apparently only available through the school market by Scholastic. I can't, even knowing how important this knowledge is, see giving this to a young child. Maybe a teenager but even with this, I believe younger children still need to be shielded...while they can. I might hand this to my daughter as a teenager or older but not any younger and it depends on her maturity.
I was surprised to see one or two of the pictures in this also- shocking pictures that I've seen before, as an adult, and that I really don't know how I would have handled as a child.
The book is great for adults and maybe younger people alike- I found out a couple minor things I didn't know. I had no idea all Jewish women were given the middle name Sarah for instance. That's not all I learned.
It's important for this knowledge to be passed on. I think there is an age appropriateness that needs to be listened to here though.

Imagine growing up in Hitler's Germany as part of a Jewish family. This is the tale of the Blumenthal family - Walter, Ruth, Albert and Marion. The entire family survives the horrors of Nazi Germany but not without great difficulty. Each time they planned to leave the Nazis behind something happened to change their direction and lives. Marion missed her childhood. Albert cared for the family long before the war ended and they emigrated to the U.S. Walter survived but died of typhus shortly after the family is liberated by the Russians. This story is informative and sad. This is about a family and its survival during a tragic period of history. And, this is a story about a little girl who kept looking for four perfect pebbles because she believed that if she found them her family would stay together. Her family would be safe. And, despite all that happened to them her belief comes true. Be prepared to return to Nazi Germany and travel with the Blumenthals as they flee from the Nazis.
Great reading - also of interest and can be read by Adults.
This is a beautiful gft book and story. Several years ago my children's Christian school hosted the author, Marion Blumenthal Lazan and her godly husband Nathaniel. I could see God's love shine on Nathaniel's face.
This beautiful gift book is Marion's autobiography of the time she spent as a prisoner, along with her parents and brother. Marion is not angry or bitter. She told us her story and I bought a copy of this book and she signed it. This is an extra unsigned copy of her beautiful, but sad story.
