I am not sure if this is a good place to post this but I thought it was worth a shot. I have an uncle who is in prison  up in Michigan who would like Christian Literature. I am on a very fixed income and I am unable to pay for books for him. I was wondering if any one knows where I can get books for him that are free or of little cost? He is turning his life to God and I want to support him in this.

I know you can not send books to inmates on this site. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get them. Please keep in mind that all books sent to prisons have to come from the orginating source. No books sent from individuals will be accepted.

Thanks....Becky

Rebecca, I don't know what type of Christian literature you have in mind--fiction or nonfiction.. You could check ChristianFreebies.com and see if they have any free books that could be sent to him. And sometimes different TV ministries like InTouch with Charles Stanley or Hour of Power etc sometimes have free books that they will mail just for asking. I would check to see if there are any prison ministries in your area that you could ask for suggestions. They should know where you could get books sent to  inmates.  , I don't have any first hand experience with  your problem, but maybe one of these suggestions will help. It is good of you to help your uncle turn his life around.

My first thought is Prison Fellowship. It is a ministry for those in prison and their families. I believe it was started by Christian speaker and author Charles Colson who spent time in prison for his involvement in the Watergate scandal.

God Bless!

I have gotten several books for free from the Billy Graham organzation.  They offer one free title per month, and they've all been really good books, on a big variety of topics. The website is:

http://www.billygraham.org/

I signed up for their weekly email a long time ago, and every month they post a link to the book of the month, so this is a good way to keep up on getting whatever is being sent that month. You have to request it, but there is no fee whatsoever, not even shipping or postage.

Jehovah's Witnesses go to all prisons around the world and conduct free bible studies to anyone who wants one.  They also provide free books and bibles.  If you would like to have some free literature to mail to someone you know in prison then contact the organization at:

http://www.Watchtower.org

Fill in the blanks telling where you live for someone to call on you with material.

Or write:

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society

25 Columbia Heights

Brooklyn, NY

11201-2483

http://www.catholicity.com/novels/ has three books they are willing to sent out at no charge. :)  I've read them all, and they're excellent, although they are a little hard on the Mormon faith, so if he's Mormon, I'd skip them.
