What defines a book as being a "cozy". I feel kind of dumb asking, but I see it all the time in the forums, and haven't quite put my finger on it. THANKS! |

There are a few threads in the forums that discuss what exactly a cozy is, and I'm sure that others could explain it better than me, but..... Cozy mysteries tend to be fairly short (200 pages or so), run in series, and have "cute" names (puns, etc.). They involve amateur sleuths, and "cozy" environments or activities (crafts, beds & breakfasts, travel, food, etc.). Although they involve murder, they are not very bloody, and the murderer always knows the victims (no serial killers or anything like that). They're kind of like modern-day Murder She Wrote stories, but cuter and "cozier". And, they're very addicting. Hope that helps; maybe someone else can explain it better. ETA: I also have some border-line postable Murder She Wrote books that are not on my bookshelf, which are subject to the same deal. |
