I was spending a sickday on the sofa and wanted an absorbing read when I picked up this book and boy, did I find it! I was instantly caught up in this fascinating family drama, with was written with a light-hearted touch. I found that I could not put this book down and was fascinated by the character of Maggie, the main character. She was so fully-fleshed out, and while flawed, I understood her flaws and was so sympathetic to her as she walked through the minefield of her sister's family who she was staying with as she studied Mandarin Chinese for a year. The book had several surprising twists and turns that added to and deepened the story, as well as taking me off guard. The author so perfectly captured life in modern Britain today -- it was like watching a documentary! I was surprised and delighted by how satisfying this book was and I could not put it down until I finished it. Great book for a plane ride, beach or anyone just looking for a quick, absorbing read!
