Lately I have really been having trouble getting my books ---  I have 1 book which I requested on 10/26 - says that it will be mailed by 11/3 - still hasn't been marked mailed and it is late in the day on 11/5 (this was a Wish Listed Book and I waited 2 weeks before this person responded at all)!  I have two books that were requested on 11/1 and am still waiting for the members to respond!  I have 1 book which was requested on 11/1 and they have said they would mail by 11/10 (10 days)!!

Am I being unreasonable to expect a faster response to my requests - I have never had this happen before and have requested and received lots of books.

Hi Nancy!

I'm sorry you've been having some frustrating times with some of the members lately.  However, you shouldn't worry too much.  Members only have so much time to mark the books mailed out, so if they exceed the time, the request will move on.  They're obviously still within their limit if the requests are still active.

It's a busy time of year for most people with the holiday season coming up, and I know that I can speak for myself when I say I'm alreay having to budget myself more strict on expenses like postage so that I will be able to buy gifts this year.  Maybe they're waiting for pay day, or maybe somebody got sick, or who knows.

If this isn't something that's happened to you before, then you should be good.  I'm sure it's just a little phase.  Besides, before you know it, you'll have such a huge TBR pile and books coming and going so much that you won't even be phased by mailing times anymore.

Nancy, hang in there. It is odd how you got a lot of the same situations (slow people!) at one time.  Next thing you know the tide will turn and you'll get a bunch of members who respond right away! Good luck with your wishlisted book. Though it sounds like it went through more than one member- a member only has five days to respond to a request.

Nancy - The PBS system doesn't allow a sender 10 day to mail a book.  They have to check a date (5 days max I believe if they can't mail within two days) so if they don't mail by the day they checked then it will time out. Did this person PM you that they would mail it in 10 days? Is that where you got the 10 days from?

On the wishlisted book, I don't think I'm understanding you. After two weeks that wishlised book should have been long out of the system if they didn't respond to your request to send it.

I'm totally into being patient with all members on here when it comes to receiving books. It's just a book and while I might want this book "desperately" I can always be sympathetic to someone's reason for sending out late. I always have something else to read - like pretty much all of us on here I daresay.  I'm attributing that attidude for my good luck with this site. I think if I'm nice, patient and sympathetic they're more apt to send my book out first than someone elses. Consequently, I get all my books in a very nice time frame.

The ten days came from the date I requested it to the date they state that they will mail by (11/1 - 11/10)!  The Wish List book went through a couple of different people over a 2 week period until this person responded (on 10/26) stating they would mail by 11/3!

I am always nice to people - go out of my way to let them know that I appreciate each and every book I get!  I have not PM'd any of these people as I want to give them the benefit of the doubt!  Was just sharing my frustration with so many of them on 'hold'!  As I said, this is the first I have had this happen in all the time that I have been a member.

Because many people are only able to or choose to only go to the PO once a week, it is not really unusual to me to think that people will use the time allotted to save themselves trips to the PO. They facilitate this by waiting until the last day to mark it accepted, and then wait the full 5+2 days to mark it mailed. (You can pick a date 5 days from the date you accept that you will mail it, and then you get 2 days more to actually mark it.)

I'm sure it gets frustrating on the receiving end for some, but when you realize the PO is so unreliable with the delivery of Media Mail, I just block out the time it takes the member to respond.
