Bottom:

1 cup sugar

1 cup boiling water

1/2 cup cocoa

Mix above ingredients and set aside.

Top:

Mix 2 1/4 cup flour, 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 tsp. baking soda  -  set aside

Cream 1/2 cup shortening  and 1 1/2 cup sugar

add 2 eggs  mix well.

Alternately add:

1 cup milk , 1 tsp. vanilla,    and   flour mixture.

You are now ready to fill pie crusts.

Pour cocoa mix equally into the two pie crusts.

Equally divide the top mixture and pour on top of cocoa mix.

Bake in 350° oven for 45 min.

This is popular in our area. (Eastern Pa.)   People usually eat this cake at breakfast time.
