This is a fantastic resource for garden enthusiasts and gardeners alike. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Although it is described as a travel guide, it is really much more than that.
The book includes chapters on public gardens, farmer's markets and pick-it-yourself farms, annual garden events, day trips, a special section on places to visit with your children and more. The author also writes about local garden clubs, volunteer opportunities and retail sources for plants in the Houston area. Each listing includes the website address and a map location to help you plan for travel time.
Since this book was written by a master gardener, it provides thorough plant information and even some helpful gardening tips. My favorite part is the "Best of the Best" list and now my goal is to visit all of the destinations and events listed here. I look forward to discovering some hidden treasures in my own hometown.
