Has anyone had this? If so what is your opinion? Thanks Last Edited on: 7/28/10 7:16 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I haven't had it but I did work for a doctor that performed them. I met many of the patients both before and after the procedure and all were ecstatic (even more than a year afterward). Most had trouble getting it covered by their insurance. I also earlier worked for an insurance company that denied them everyday. I personally would try other efforts before I even contemplated it for myself. I would certainly research both the doctor and procedure thoroughly before deciding. It's certainly not a magic pill like some people believe, it is still a lifestyle change. Look at even Carnie Wilson...she still struggles with her weight. Laparoscopic surgery : Dr Lauter's site, some helpful info.
Hope that helps a little!

Thanks Crystal I saw your post on the other thread. It's a shame this one doesn't get used more. Kate |

The point of gastric bypass is to appease the appetite so that the person will eat less. It works in that direction, but when you decrease your daily consumption by that much, you lose a lot of muscle. If you're willing to make the lifestyle change after the surgery then I would suggest making it now so that you don't need the procedure done at all. I have been doing a lot of research, and hoefully will be doing this by the end of the year. I found o couple of good books here about the different types, and the entire experience. Check local hospitals, first, many have open sessions that will explain what your options are. It not an easy fix, its not for everyone! Let me know, or asked me questions, I'll try to help if you can.
i'm being seen at Bayview in Baltimore, they are part of Johns Hopkins.

I had the ROUX-EN_Y gastric by pass surgery 11 weeks ago on Sept. 14. In these 11 weeks, I have lost 66 lbs. I am so happy and my body is feeling lots better. I am almost having a daily metamorphasis of my body. It's truely AMAZING! It's not at all painful, like I thought. |

I had the lap band 7 (almost 8) years ago. Any of the weight-loss surgeries will act as a tool, but only if you use it. I lost 130lbs in the first 6 months of the lap band, gained 50 back and became complacent for 5 years. Then I decided to put my mind, body, heart & soul into it and lost the rest over a 3 year time span. I've lost 210 lbs, have had a tummy tuck, boob job, and am just now recoving from a butt lift. Yeah, sharpei puppy no more! :D

My mom is in the process of getting approved for the lap band. I'm both excited for her AND scared!! The doctor she will use is really, really good so that makes me feel better. Does anyone who has had this done have any advice about how I can help her? |

I had the bypass on Sept. 13, 2010. So far I have lost 137 lbs. It's the best decision I have ever made. You just have to make sure you follow the calorie and exercise guide line.
