I posted something similar in the Romance forum, because I'm not sure what this would be classified as...romance, or history, or even fantasy, but I love the stories of Siegfried and Brunhild and the elements of those legends.  Anyone ever come across any novels with or close to these storylines?  Or Norse/Germanic legends or history in general?

Try Greenlanders by Jane Smiley. This one is written using the same style as the sagas, it's very good. I think it's available.

Sigrid Undset has 2 great series: Kristin Lavransdatter and Master of Hestviken. Undset won a Nobel prize.

Eric Brighteyes by H. Rider Haggard

King Harald's Saga by Snorri Sturlson

The Thrall's Tale - Judith Lingbergh -  I loved this one!

The Sea Road - Margaret Elphinstone.

I also love reading the Norse sagas, The Saga of Vinland, Njal's Saga, and many more.

One more -

Tim Severin has a three book series, Viking: King's Man, Viking: Odinn's Child, and Sworn Brother. I haven't read these yet, but I will.

Thanks, Valli!  "The Thrall's Tale" is actually on my TBR list right now.  Glad to hear it's a good one!  :)
