The way this book is set up adds to the reader's enjoyment. There are sidebars, cartoons, stories about the famous and their hangouts during different time periods in Hollywood. It is a breezy collection of stories and the scandals that were hushed up.
The main focus is on the stars of differing ages: the Silent Era, 1895-1929; the Studio Era, 1939-1945; the Postwar Era, 1946-1959; and the 1960's & New Hollywood, 1960-1979. The movers-and-shakers of each period are included. If that weren't enough, the book also includes the drink recipes that Hollywood luminaries made famous.
After reading this book, I wonder if anyone was sober during the making of any early movie. This book names names. Some of the stories are downright sad, while others are funny. It took me weeks to read this because I liked to peruse it just before turning out the light at night. It has led to drink-imbued dreams with fabulous drinking partners. Cheers.
