Gittel's Hands is a deft modern retelling of an Eastern European Jewish morality tale and Elijah story. The author, Erica Silverman, mixes a bit of Rumplestilskin, an admonition to take care how you use your words in the world, demonstrations of kindness and a courageous daughter helping her father. The colorful illustrations by Deborah Nourse Lattimore aptly reinterpret the work of artist Marc Chagall. A really lovely book!
