This was my first book I sent out. It was hard parting with. I read this after going to Rome and seeing the Colliseum first hand which was an unforgetable experience. Its amazing to learn that men did not become gladiators out of choice but were chosen. It brought back to mind how "executionary sports" were of great popularity in our history and perhaps because I am a product of the late 20th century, I can not grasp that. Perhaps due to distractions of today or the moral and ethical clauses in our law system which covers even the "real guilty". Despite all this, I find the social and psychological aspects of the gladiator culture fascinating (not necessarily in an entire agreement sense).
