Second in the ICE series. It's okay but not great. There's lots of action and an easy-to-follow plot. Rick and Laura are fairly shallow characters and not as appealing as Repairman Jack and Gia (although certainly Laura gets more to do). It's another in his Intrusive Cosmic Entities books, with Earth and humanity as minor pieces in a chess game between, umm, cosmic entities. Wasn't terribly convinced about the dapis but okay, I'll go with it. Wilson does enter into some technical discussions about genes and DNA that I just glazed over. I liked Panacea better, as it gave the characters more choices to make, but this is still a fun complement to Wilson's "secret history of the world".
