Finally! Grundy gets his own adventure. In this, the ninth Xanth novel, Grundy sets off to find the lost former Gap Dragon, Stanley Steamer, to prevent a distraught little sorceress - IVY - from doing something rash.Clueless about where to begin, he seeks the advice if the Good Magician Humphrey, who tells him to ride The Monster Under The Bed to the Ivory Tower.
But Ivy's pun pal, Rapunzel, is the only one residing in the Ivory tower! What has she to do with the lost dragon? And how is it that an insignificant, loud-mouthed, former bundle of wax, rags, and wood is chosen to undertake, what turns out to be, a dangerous, noble quest which ultimately requires him to prove himself before all of Xanth?

I enjoyed this novel right up to the ending, which I thought was rather abrupt. Otherwise it was a typical Xanth adventure, loaded with puns and excitement. Also, once you have read this book, you may want to think twice before dangling your pretty little ankles over the side of your bed :o)

One of the Xanth series regulars, Grundy Golem, gets his time in the spotlight. Grundy goes on a quest without the regular gang, and has to be in charge for once. It's the same story as usual, but at least Grundy's sarcastic wit makes it feel a little fresher. A good read for Xanth fans.

Grundy Golem was the size of an inconsequence, and nobody had any respect for him-including Grundy! To prove himself, he volunteered to ride the Monster Under the Bed to the Ivory Tower to find little Ivy's long lost dragon, Stanley Steamer. After many adventures, he reached the Tower, to learn that the evil Sea Hag kept her lovely Rapunzel imprisoned there, her body destined to be used to maintain the witch's immortality. Grundy managed to free the damsel, and they fled together. As the descendant of Jordan the Barbarian and Bluebell Elf, Rapunzel could become any size, even that of any Golem's dreamgirl. But Grundy knew she was surely fated for someone better than he, besides, the Sea Hag still pursued them to destroy him and get her back. And he still hadn't found Stanley Steamer.
