I was surprised to find how short this book was...but I was grateful it was so short, b/c otherwise I would not have finished it. Disappointing for such a potentially great book.
I only got about 55 pages into this one. About a mom driving her only child across country to college. It just seemed to me one long boo hoo fest on the mom's part and when she liked losing her daughter 'to college' to a death in the family, funeral, etc, that just made me mad as I've HAD that real loss and nothing compares. I just knew I could take another 200 pages on this woman boohooing about her daughter growing up.
I really like Susan Wiggs, so I was excited to get this new book. I was a little disappointed though, and didn't even read the entire book. It is a story about a Mom taking her only child- a daughter- away to college. Now, I know this is a hard thing to do, and even though I couldn't relate to the mom, I knew what she was going through. Still, the storyline was slow, the characters one-dimensional, and the writing sub-par. I read about 50 pages in, and then just skimmed the rest of the book.
This book did not meet the expectations of Ms. Wiggs other books. The story was weak and just not for me. I have read all of this author's other books and loved all of them but I have to give this one a pass.
I can't believe I read this book in one day. I enjoyed reading about the adventures the mom & daughter come across on their way to taking her to college. It made me think I am glad my DS didn't go away.
I've never read any of Susan Wiggs' books before so I can't compare this to her other work, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While I wouldn't exactly say it was a "spellbinding action-packed, thrill a minute", I did find it interesting and well written. It's a short book that can be read in a couple of sittings and has a "feel-good" ending. I consider it to be a touching, heartwarming, summer read.

really enjoyed this book. I have enjoyed all Susan Wiggs' work, but this is a bit different, and certainly thought provoking and a fun read, too.
