This book has MANY very high reviews and people seemed to love it. I could barely get through it, since it kept putting me to sleep! In the end, I never really understood it. The prose was especially irritating, since the author wrote in a long, breathless, run on sentence that could go for one to two pages at a time. And frequently did. The praise made it sound great, but I don't intend to waste any more time with this writer! Absolutely would NOT recommend it! D.
I wanted to like this book because it got good reviews but it just didn't do it for me. For me this was like 4 in-depth character studies. The characters were well drawn and detailed but I kept waiting for the connection between the four and the connection to the desk to become clear. It kind of does near the end but not in a very satisfying way and still very vague. While the characters were detailed as to their thoughts and feelings, sometimes it was too detailed and became tedious. I have two other books by this author on my bookshelves waiting to be read and I'll read them . . . but won't get another unless one of those really hits the mark.
