Cultural exchanges between the US and Japan, from 1854 to the golden summer of 1913.
A well-qualified author and a scholarly book. He has put a great deal of effort into finding references to this era of Japanese and American intellectual intercourse. I read the chapter about Kakuzo Okakura on the bus, being interested in Isabella Stewart Gardner.
