I'm a low fat vegan. I have always enjoyed green juices, as well as green smoothies. In fact, I often have a green smoothie for breakfast. I picked this book up in the library, thinking it would yield some good recipes to try. Alas, the book had only a handful of recipes - all the way in the back of the book. Most of the book was taken up with information about how good green smoothies are for us, which I already knew.
I suppose this would be a good book for beginners. Although, I would be wary about some of the claims. For one thing, A LOT of the book is based on anecdotes or other people's personal experience. While it's nice to hear about success stories, I prefer to hear the science behind nutrition. Also, since this book is geared towards beginners, I think facts, research, etc., would have been more helpful. Further, some of the claims, i.e. gray hair will disappear are bogus. Gray hair is genetic. Lastly, a lot of the recipes had agave syrup in them - like up to 1/4 cup! Some of them had yogurt in them (not vegan friendly). I think it's much more healthy to get the sweetness from fruit, as opposed to syrups. So, I wouldn't use any of the recipes in here as a result. Fruit, greens, and water is all one needs for a healthy, sweet smoothie!
If you're new to the green smoothie thing, this is an OK book. The recipes can be a good place to start. But, I highly recommend checking out other green smoothie recipes - there is no need for all that sugary syrup.
