I've been reading this series in order. The authors (mother/daughter team) are decent writers. They are from the Twin Cities and the series primarily takes place in the Cities. The book is a page turner so I read it in a couple days. So, why only a three-star review? As I said in at least one review of the books I've read thus far, the Monkeewrench crew members are rather "cartoonish"--6'+ Roadrunner dresses in fluorescent lycra; Annie, a large, confident woman, dresses in expensive but garish outfits; Harley Davidson is a huge man who wears black leather but loves classical music; and Grace, damaged by childhood trauma, always wear black.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Grace, who has taken an extended vacation with John, an older, retired FBI agent, has suddenly exchanged her old black outfit for sandals and a sundress. The rationale for this drastic change seems simplistic considering Grace has had much trauma in her life (thus the black outfit). When the Monkeewrench crew flees Harley's mansion after learning the bad guys might be on their way, they don't don't check the vehicle until after they arrive at their destination. They then discover that there's a GPS on the auto.

SPOILERS (cont.): Given that this is a crew of computer whizzes, it's astounding that no one thought to check the car. Furthermore, Harley's mansion is on Summit Avenue in St. Paul. I live in St. Paul. Summit Avenue is a real street and still has many mansions from the late 1800s/early 1900s. Considering that the Monkeewrench crew worked out of Harley's mansion, I would assume there would be a big, secure fence around his property as well as a lot of high tech security stuff (cameras, motion detectors, etc.). So, if someone had managed to get onto the property to attach a GPS, there would likely be some kind of alert. Of course, there's a possibility that the GPS was put on while Harley was out and about in his vehicle.

SPOILERS (cont.): The crew and retired FBI agent John are at the cabin up north surrounded by bad guys in the woods. The local police chief orders John to stay in the kitchen. Well, of course, John decides to go out the back door and wander into the woods. Stupid behavior. Well, you can guess the outcome. END OF SPOILERS

The ending was very abrupt--almost like the authors had decided they were tired of writing and just wanted to be done. I believe I had that same complaint of at least one of the previous books. Suddenly, it's announced that all the bad guys have been taken care of--I believe all killed. No detail of how they were killed, how many, who killed them, etc.

There are five more books in this series. Although I would consider this series average, I will continue to read through it.
