This book has everything you might want in a Raymond Chandler story that has been brought into the present. There is deceit,double-crosses, good bad-guys, bad good-guys, and women who are damaged goods. It also contains violence the likes Chandler never discussed. Not violence for violence sake, but well handled violence that might make you wince a bit. I think the two strongest points this book has are well fleshed-out characters and a great story. Things move along at a good pace and rhythm. I have read a few of Victor Gischler's books and short stories and I have never been disappointed. Gun Monkeys is no exception and probably my favorite of his books.

I've read a few of Victor Gischler's books as well as few of his short stories. This is one of his best. His characters feel real in the sense that, although I don't know people like this, I do believe they exist. Lots of good hard-boiled action and a few surprises. Kind of an updated Raymond Chandler story with a little Taratino thrown in. I'll probably re-read this one after I finish Gischler's Suicide Squeeze.
