Alexandra has lived in Boston with her aunt for the last 5 years. After she is proposed to, by a gentleman who sees her helping his political ambitions, she flees back home to her father's in Montana. Malcolm is a bounty hunter who is hunting the individual who murdered his brother. He is a successful bounty hunter. After an unfortunate event, he agrees to escot Alexandra (Alex) to Montana.
Both characters were interesting. Alex for sure was more than she seemed. The reason why she was sent to live in Boston with her aunt was interesting and unexpected. I liked that Malcolm and Alex had more in common than they first realized.
An epilogue would have been nice, I thought her reunion with her dad and the events after that were a little rushed. An epilogue would have smoothed that over. (I think).

Alexandra has reached the pinnacle of Boston society -- a marriage offer from one of the most prominent families. After accepting, Alexandra escapes Boston and returns to her roots in Montana. She left her father at the age of fifteen (under unknown circumstances to the reader) and went to live with her aunt in Boston, learning manners and social skills. Now, Alexandra is twenty, and she wants to see Montana, and her father, before taking the serious step of marriage.
Malcolm Kincaid is a gunslinger and bounty hunter. He is looking for the last man who killed his younger brother eight years ago. Alexandra asks Malcolm to help her get to Montana, and he refuses. So instead, she accepts someone else's help and is left destitute and robbed. Eventually, she finds Malcolm camping. He promises to take her to the next town. However, that did not work out as planned, and Malcolm was stuck with an unwelcome sidekick.
Alexandra promises not to be a burden to Malcolm. But of course, he knows she's kidding because she's an Eastern lady. He does not know that Alex grew up in Montana, living off the land with her father. Her skills come into play when Malcolm is injured.
I'm giving the author the benefit of the doubt by rating this book VG. Unfortunately, there was a lot of redundancy with inner voices ruminating about the other lead character. I thought at least 25 pages could have been edited to remove some of the excess contemplation.
