If you've ever thought of getting into Robert Ludlum's books, this is a good place to start! This audio is the "first" in the "Covert One" series by Ludlum. Unfortunately, I started the series with "Cassandra Compact", which I thoroughly enjoyed, and as a result, decided to go back to the beginning of the series and start over. This book kept me interested in the characters and the plot, although this book is a lot "lighter" and less complex than the regular Ludlum novel, it still contains the high level of suspense and plot twists that his fans have come to expect. This book is an "above average" thriller, which, when you stop to think about the story-line, is almost prophetic. If you remember the SARS outbreak, and the ever lurking EBOLA, the premise for this story COULD HAPPEN. It has what I like to call Plausible Probability! I think you'll like this one, the story is gripping and suspenseful, the bad guys are diabolical, the good guys are resourceful beyond reason. This audio is ENTERTAINING, and while straining the limits of belief, it remains a "fun" listen, without crossing the boundary into silliness. I can recommend it with a clear conscience.
Another great Ludlum novel. a must read for any Ludlum fan
I'm a die hard Ludlum fan. Loved, "The Ambler Warning" and the "Lazarus Vendetta". But, I couldn't finish this one. A bit too slow.
Robert Ludlum's first Covert One novel. This is the beginning of a series that I have read all of. Intigue, politics and adventure in the current day.
abridged 4 cassettes 6 hours
This is the second Robert Ludlum book my husband and I have read together. I read while he drives so I try to find books I think he both he and I will like. This book has suspense and espionage with twists and turns. There are times we think the wording is somewhat far-fetched but that does not bother us too much. I like the fact that I can read aloud and he gets to 'read', too. I am trying to 'wish' for more of Ludlum's books here on PBS since we both like mystery, action and intrigue.
An unknown doomsday virus quickly claims the lives of four epeople acorss the country--including Dr. Sophia Russell, a researcher leading the team trying to crack the disease. Her fiance, Lt. Col. Johathan Smith assembles a private team to aid his fight against the deadly virus.
First one in the "Covert-One" series. A good read.
First in a series, althought not necessary to read them in order of publication. International espionage/counterterrorism with a technological slant.
A homeless man in Boston- an Army Major in California- a teenage girl in Atlanta- all dying suddenly and painfully., each a victim of an unknown doomsday virus....
Gayle excels in the original Ludlum tradition....
Ludlum is a great writer. I enjoy the intrigue and suspense of his books.
Part of the Covert One series of international thrillers. Doomsday virus spreads across the country. Search for the cause uncovers a high level plot and global intrigue. Typical Ludlum intensity and attention to detail.
The subject is very topical -- germ warfare. In this case, not from a foreign enemy but from an American pharmaceutical company that is using the threat of a panedmic to blackmail the leading nations of the world. A gripping story.
Doomsday virus kills 4 people, then it becomes known that the virus is in the hands of someone who may use it to start a pandemic.
What can I say-it\'s Ludlum. Even though he is co-writing and seemingly \'grinding\' them out, it\'s still Ludlum-hands down the best mystery writer of our time
Great book, have yet to find a bad book written by Robert Ludlum. Always full of acton.
Good story, througly enjoyed.
Good plot- enjoyable listening
First book in the "Covert One" series. Reads like a Robin cook novel.
loved this book and am reading the whole series of covert one will be starting book five soon
An unknown doomsday virus quickly claims the lives of four people across the country---including Dr. Sophi Russell, a researcher leading the team trying to crack the disease. Devastated and enraged, her fiance, Lt. Colonel Jonathan Smith, uncovers evidence that his lover's death was no accident---that someone out there has the virus, and the pandemic that threatens countless millions of lives was planned.
One of Ludlam's best. My husband couldn't put it down.
its a good mysterie book. I dont usually read this kind of book but it kept my interest
"Not knowing whom to trust, Smith assembles a private team to search for the truth behind the deadly virus." -From the cover
Old saying - Money is the root of all evil. You can't get more evil than this. A pharmaceutical company spreads a deadly virus so that they can make BIG MONEY selling the cure to the world. Good thing there are people willing to die to expose them.
