In crockpot mash two cans of the beans with a potato masher or pastry cutter
add two cans beans whole add two cans water, ham bone, and bay leaves, pepper to taste.
Cook on high for about two hours to get things going, then reduce to low and cook all day or overnight.
this is the best bean soup I have ever eaten. You must have the ham bone to get the flavor.
