A series of short articles/opinion pieces from a leftist newspaper, this book is a curious mixture. Some of the articles tell us just how much of what was once "leftist" has now become mainstream (integration, anti-McCarthyism), and other parts leave you amazed that anyone actually had to express this in writing. In a piece he wrote following a visit to Russia, for example, he wrote, in italics so you can't miss the emphasis, that Soviet Russia "is not a good society and it is not lead by honest men." Well, yeah. Stalin and Khruschev aren't really models of good behavior, now are they?

Definitely worth reading for the sections on integration and McCarthy, other articles tell you how much the world has changed in 40 to 50 years - and some tell you how much it has stayed the same.
