I bought this book at a used book store not realizing it was for "young adults." However, I enjoyed the story, it was a nice little spooky ghost story. I have to disagree with the age range of 9-12 for this book. It is for a more mature reader. I would put the age for reading this book at 12 and above. There are murders, including a 16 year old who watches her grandfather shot down in cold blood by Union soldiers. The home is haunted by an evil spirit and the haunting activity would probably be too intense and scary for younger readers. Plus, a teenage boy makes sexual advances toward the 15 year old heroine.
All in all, I believe this book would be an enjoyable read for teens and adults who like ghost stories.
