William Randolph Hears looms large in twentieth-century America. One of his best-known legacies is La Cuesta Encantada, or Hearst Castle, the product of his collaboraion with Julia Morgan, his architect. Taylor Coffman tells of the human side of this legacy and also provides a much-needed overview of the history of the san Simeon area. The book is a fine piece of local history writing.
