Hello everyone. I'm searching for a favorite book of mine which I lost recently in a fire. I believe it was an older Avon historical romance. I think the heroin's name was Alyssa but I'm not positive about that. The basic plot was that the main female character believes she's killed someone. I think I remember her seeing a man attacking a young boy so she stops him and then somehow he accidentally ends up dead. Or so she assumes. She goes home and tells her sister Ivy about it. Her sister convinces her she'll be caught and end up in prison or be executed and that she has to leave right away before the police come for her. There's some guy staying with them for a couple of days and Ivy convinces her sister that the only way to get her out of this mess is to get her married to the stranger in their home. But it's a well known fact he never wants to marry period. So Ivy decides they need to trick him. It just so happens he's drunk the night everything takes place. He's completely passed out. Alyssa strips and gets into bed with him. Then her sister cuts her finger and smears blood on the sheets. The next morning the guy wakes up and finds Alyssa in his bed. She immediately tells him he attacked her the night before. Thinking he's raped her he agrees to marry her. They get married and everything is fine except they start developing feelings for each other. When they finally make love for the first time the guy realizes Alyssa's still a virgin. He's furious and it takes her forever to reveal why she did it in the first place. In the mean time he pretty much hates her. I remember also that Ivy shows up one day with a husband and a baby. A husband she can't stand and a baby she won't even hold. She flirts constantly with her sister's husband. I think her baby ends up dying and she doesn't even care. That's really all I can remember. I keep thinking that flame, blaze, fire, ecstasy, endless, embrace, and embers are somewhere in the title but I've tried them all in all sorts of combinations and I still can't find anything. Can someone please help? Thank you!
