I posted the book "The Treasury of American Short Stories" / Nancy Sullivan ISBN-10: 0880295120 but the book that showed up on my bookshelf is "A Treasury of American Folklore" with the same isbn.  The picture of book showing on my private bookshelf is wrong and there isnt a pic on the public bookshelf.  When I posted the book no picture came up at all.  Also I am sure that when I clicked to add it to my shelf, it was the name of my book and not the one that is showing.  What should I do?

Hi Adrienne,

I can't say what happened exactly, but the PBS Database has that ISBN assigned to "A Treasury of American Folklore" .  You'll want to remove that book from your bookshelf and repost it using the No ISBN option.  The link for that on the Post Books page.

I dont know why books sometimes share ISBNs, but we have seen that happen before.

I'll send a message to a BDC and see if anything can be done. I looked it up on the Barnes and Noble site, listed Publisher, and the ISBN points to the Short Stories book.

Adrienne, send me a PM and we will fix this. Since the titles are so similar, my guess is that one is an older edition of the other and they changed the title on a reprint to bring more attention to it. Publishers do it ALL the time :)

I won't have any problems getting your correction thru, since you have the only copy of the book in the system.

Thanks for the heads up, Thiggy.

Edited to add: for those who wonder how I came to this conclusion: first, experience, we've seen this with lots of books. Second, think about it, a treasury of American folklore, IS a treasure of American short stories. The name change makes perfect sense, and in this case, we state that it was ALSO published, with the other name. Since it has been found with both, logic rules.

i just looked at the two books on Amazon and they seem to be different books entirely (different authors, publication dates, etc).  According to Amazon, the Treasury of American Folklore does not have an ISBN, just an ASBN, while the Treasury of American Short Stories has the ISBN Adrienne listed.  Something obviously went awry in the PBS database!

That was going to be my advice, to contact the Book Data Editing Dept.  I just nitufued them of an incorrect PBS listing, the ISBN and title were correct but author was incorrect (different author w/similar book title).  Within 24 hours I was notified that the error was corrected...great results, thanks classicana!!
