If we have anyone in this forum who is experienced at running a swap game, I'd like to suggest that we put together a chick lit swap box.

From what I understand, there was a Chick Lit regular swap game that got really crazy, but I think that if we did a box swap, it would be much easier to control.

I ran the idea past Mendy (who is one of the games forum geniuses) and she suggested posting it here to see if there is any interest.

I'm a newbie at swap games, so I don't think I'm ready to run a game. If someone here has done so before and is up to the challenge, I'd love to sign on for a chick lit swap box!

Is anyone willing to try it out?

- Lauri

(Who currently only has 1 or 2 chick lit books left on her shelf, but has DOZENS in the TBR pile...)

I love Chick lit books and I would love to play in a game. I can't run the game but I would definently sign up to play. Let me know if you find someone to host it.

Here's a quick synopsis of how book box games work:

The General Rules for Book Boxes are:

  1. The Hostess will take names until the desired # of participants is reached, usually 10 because the box is actually being mailed and can take some time to reach everyone.
  2. The order of receipt is determined with the Hostess being the last to receive the box since she started it off.
  3. The Hostess fills the box with the # of items that has been decided upon (usually 15-20 items) and includes an address list for the players to refer to.
  4. The box is mailed to Player 1.  Player 1 chooses the items she wants to keep and replaces those items with items from her own collection.  For example, Player 1 decides to take 4 books, she must put 4 books back in.  You can put in more items than you take out if you want to but you must put in at LEAST the same # as you remove.
  5. Player 1 then mails the box to Player 2.  Player 2 can then take out the # of items that she wants to remove and replace those with items from her collection.  This repeats until all participants have had the box and it has completed it's circle back to the Hostess.
  6. Please use Delivery Confirmation as this box represents a large commitment from the Hostess.  Delivery Confirmation is only an additional $0.14 for Media Mail if you use the USPS's Shipping Assistant found here: Link.

For more information on games and how they work, go to the Games Forum and check out the red posts for "Ettiquette for Games". It explains a lot about the games played here, the rules, and how to play.

I would DEFINITELY be interested in participating.  My TBR pile is full of chick lit.  Plus I am always picking it up at the used book store down the street.  I'm not experienced enough to run it, but I would love to join in the fun!

Ooooh oooooh I wanna do it, I wanna do it!  I have a bunch of chic lit on my bookshelf, and several that I'm about to post too, so this would be great timing for me.

I've never participated in a swap game, let alone hosted one, so I wouldn't be comfy hosting, but I would love to participate.  After I get some swap experience, I wouldn't mind hosting one down the road.

How long to people usually hang onto the box before remailing?  I mail really fast, but I was a little shocked to see that a lot of people routinely wait 10 or more days from a book request to pop it into the mail.  It sounds like fun, but waiting months and months for the box would suck.

The standard rule is that you must mail the box within 5 days. Since Delivery Confirmation is required to play a box game, we can tell if that timeline is being adhered to or not...

Wow...there's a lot of people interested in this potential swap.

Give me a few days to think on it...I may...just may...see if I can start one. Everyone has to do it for the first time at some point, right? The game crew might want me to wait a bit, but you never know.

More to come...

I think "virtual" boxes work better.  It saves everyone the expense of mailing & it's much safer.  There have been a couple of boxes that have gone missing, and a couple that turned into a bunch of garbage books that no one wanted about mid way through, because everyone is basically on the honor system.  With a virtual box, you just list the books you're taking out of the box and what books you're putting in, then mail your books to the people who remove them from the virtual box.
