This is by the author of Gentle Ben. I enjoyed it when I read it when I was kid, Hero is a police dog that sniffs out drugs.
Published in 1980 for the teen market, this book would probably now appeal more to pre-teens. Tells about the misadventures of a young Coast Guard sailor and his drug sniffing dog.
