Agatha Christie is the queen of mysteries but this book still proves that she only writes stick figures. The puzzles are fascinating but the characters are not life-like. This story is about Mrs. Hubbard, sister to Miss Lemon, secretary of Hercule Poirot. When Miss Lemon makes three mistakes in the same letter, Hercule knows there is trouble afoot.

Miss Lemon tells about her sister's new job at a hostelry. Things of some importance and no importance are missing. Hercule goes to the hostelry for dinner and gives a small speech about his cases. The young people are not fooled and start talking about the missing items. A young girl admits to the thefts and promises to make restitution. Then, she is found dead. There are tons of red herrings and lots of he-said, she-said. Of course, Hercule and the police find the solution in the end.
