Parents can be some of the most passionate determined people on earth. Perhaps you've seen parents at a ballgame cheering or jeering or yelling at the umpire. Perhaps you've seen parents obsessing over dance classes or piano recitals or grades or you name it. Sometimes it all gets way out of control. That's where this book begins... with a parent trying to live her dreams through her daughter.
I had a bit of trouble getting into this book. I'm not really into crime scene investigation type books, and I'm not really interested in ballet. I thought that the story would be a feel good story since it was about a quilt and I assumed quilting. It was a much more complex and detailed crime story than I expected.
I did find that the I was drawn to both Sophia, the main character and Julian, the detective investigating the case. The fact that Sophia was unable to speak after she and her mother were brutally attacked lent an unusual aspect to the story line. If you like mysteries but don't like violent details, you may want to pass on this book. All this said, if you like detective stories and whodunits, and you don't mind a violent, but not graphic, details, you may find that you enjoy this book.

Spiritual Content- Sophia cries out to God; Alena says that watching Nina dance "was like watching bog (God) breathe life." She says a bit later that Nina danced "like a goddess"; Julian doesn't want to believe in God because of things that happened in his past, but his partner Brody does and witnesses; Sophia has a strong Faith; Many Prayers; Many talks of God & forgiving.
Negative Content- Minor cussing including: a heck', a shut up', a drat it', five stupid's; Sophia has flash-backs of the attack (it's not so detailed like it was happening to the reader, but it's pretty detailed..around semi-detailed); Blood (semi-detailed & detailed); Guns, knifes, shooting, killing, murder and hurting (all semi-detailed); Mentions of a drug cartel.
Sexual Content- a sexy'; a semi-detailed kiss & wanting to kiss; Noticing (semi); With the flash-backs, Sophia remembers a man straddling her (no-details, it was most likely to keep her still, not sexual, but I thought I should add it); *Spoiler* Sophia was born out of wedlock and her grandmother wanted Nina to abort the baby. *End of Spoiler*; A baby was conceived out of wedlock; A Mention of dating; Love, falling in love and a tiny bit of the emotions.

I really enjoyed this book and while it was different from Miss Robin Caroll's pre-teen books, "Samantha Sanderson at the Movies" and "Samantha Sanderson On the Scene", there were parts I could tell were written by the same author. "Hidden in the Stars" has a really interknit plot; and since the back of the book says about the murder, I was able to prepare myself for any parts of that. It had humor sprinkled in and it was a very good suspense book. It's tied with "Rival Hearts" for being my favorite "Quilts of Love" book.
