Roses came to the Ogilvie clan as a young girl adopted by a childless couple. She was loved by her mother and father but always felt like an outsider. Not only was she not technically an Ogilvie, but her light blonde hair and green eyes set her apart, too. When her parents die she is brought into the lairds house as a servant and the object of his unwanted attentions. Dressing in baggy mens clothing isnt enough to deter the lairds leering. Forced to defend herself and virtue she stabs her laird and flees her home running for her life.

Just when Roses thinks she may have a caught a break she ends up coming face to face and sword to sword with Wilkie Mackenzie. Once blood is drawn and identities revealed a sort of love at first sight takes place, but the road to happily ever after isnt easy. Roses is a stranger with a mysterious and unknown past and is hunted by her Ogilvie clan. Wilkie has an obligation to marry for the good of his clan, but cant get his fair Roses out of his head.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this book. I had read a few negative reviews after I received this book that had me reading with prejudice. This is one of the times when I am happy to be proven wrong. I thought this was an excellent romance, not just for a debut author, but any veteran author. The book immediately held me as a willing captive and I loved every moment I spent in its pages. I love romances of all flavors and really appreciated the fact that these two knew what and who they wanted from the start and didnt play any games. Their relationship was steamy and sweet and his caveman possessiveness was made charming by his public overtures of tenderness and love.

This book looks to be the first in a series and I have already added this author and the book Highlander Taken to my books to buy/authors to watch list. I cant wait to read more about the Mackenzie men and their big.hearts. ;)
