Akash Kapur in 'The Top of the World' offers an essay summarizing mankind's interaction with the Himalaya (p. 68, The New Yorker, 25 January 2021). The review is complete enough that readers considering investing their time in reading Ed Douglas' book can come to a decision. I myself would like to read one of the previously published books that Mr. Kapur mentions: John Keay, The Great Arc. It is about the careful survey of the geography of India that began in 1802 and took seventy years to complete.
