An OK mystery, although the explanation of the locked room murder is so complicated that I sort of gave up trying to visualize how the killer set it up. Writing is pleasant, and although it's not a long book, some side trips could have been left out. Interactions between the police inspector and his rookie helper were lively and somewhat amusing. (Note: there is one character whose penchant for racist remarks may reflect the times, but would not pass muster in 2020.)
