Edward Petherbridge, who played Lord Peter Wimsey in the PBS series based on Dorothy Sayers' books narrates this book. His voice alone is worth the price of admission. The plot involves a decendant of Russian nobility, now deposed, who makes his living as a hotel's lure to lonely women who come there on vacation. The evenng dances & the handsome young men who are employed to dance with unaccompanied women round out a plot of international intrigue, thwarted romance & unrequited love. Harriet Vane has narrowly escaped a hanging charge of murder in the death of her lover thanks to the intervention of Lord Peter Wimsey. She goes on a walking tour or the English seaside where she stumbles across a freshly slaughtered body. She makes haste to report the murder but is the primse suspect...
Dorothy Sayers' writing is a re-readable staple for me.
