A detailed accounting of the salad days of the large record companies from the 1960s through the 1980s, before Napster went public. This book is not for someone wanting a brief overview of the industry.
These were sharks. For example Larry Tisch even bested Wm. Paley.
Well written in short chapters.
The record divisions represented large percentages of the profits of the corporations that owned them.
The indie system was crushed.
However, the down and dirty of the executives is offered. Example: "Walter began to set the stage for the removal of CBS Records US head Alteller. In many ways, it would be a replay of his political execution of Dick Asher (312)."
