I noticed today that the home page has a new look.  Will we no longer be able to see recently posted and recently swapped books?  I really like checking them out.  The "Search Books Posted Today" feature is a little overwhelming.  I just like seeing the last 8 in each category when I pull up the website!

I don't know the answer to your question, Laura, but thanks on the heads up on the new front page. I never go there so never see the new changes. I definitely like the rotating feature box! Cool job!

I miss the old home page.  That is how I would come across new books that I wanted to read.  Now, with no listing of new books, I'm better off going to the library again.    Sometimes I wish they would stop "improving" things on here.

ETA - OK I'm set now.  I never used the Search tab at the top but I found out from our lovely JJO in Live Help that that is where I can access the list of books posted today.    These Senior Moments have got to stop!!!     THANK YOU LIVE HELP!!!!

I think that they have changed it just to have less drag on the system.  With all the new members, the system has been taking a beating.  NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING!!!  LOL

You could change it to columns instead of list that way its a little easier to read.

I LOVED the thumbnails on the front page.  Without them, this site isn't very appealing anymore.

To get a feature added back, is there someone we could email . . .if enough people were interested?

I'm with you Gail - I enjoyed having the thumbnails right there too.  That WAS the home page, now it's just like advertisements.

I dont think it will be back but you could check the last few books posted by going to the search and then books posted today. If you put it on colums the picture is even big enough that you can see what it is.

Robert has responded in another thread about the changes on the home page.  His posting reads:

I just wanted to jump in here and answer this question.... We had to make this change to keep up with the growth of the site. It is not that we are trying to exclude anyone but rather make it where we can keep the same functionality. The Book Posted Today page is a heavily used page and the slightest speed increase will benefit the entire operation of the site. I hope that this answers any questions for confusion.

Robert

Wow. How quick we are to complain and say we're better off without this site! :o

They're just trying to make it better for everybody!

A Nice, Big, THANK YOU to R&R is in order for even having this site, I think. But, maybe it's just me.

I thought we were free to voice an opinion, not necessarily complain.  Isn't that how change comes about in the first place?

Part of my problem is that when changes are made, and they are made all of a sudden, there is nothing telling you somethng moved or changed, so you just kind of have to go searching to find the familiar.

As Chris said above; why not just go to "search" if you want to see books posted today??  No biggie!!

If It's less drag on the servers and it stops crashing, then I'm all for it!  A little inconvenient for those who used the old front page, but isn't it worth it? (I never used it).

June   I would have gladly gone to search if I had known where to find the list.  My problem was that I relied on the home page, and when it was changed, I had no clue where to locate it, having never looked for the list there before.

Sorry Marilynn; I did not intend to insult and I apologize if I did.   I really thought it was known that Books Posted Today was on the Search heading. I found it by putting my mouse on all the headings to see what's under them.  I think that I will tell my list of new members I get as a Tour Guide about this since it's such a good feature and they may not find it.

There is another forum thread on this subject, and one of the Founders (Robert, I believe) posted regarding this very issue...  so far, it seems though, that more people want them back than people that like the new feature or the increased functionality????  acquired by eliminating them.  Thread discussion:  http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/view_topic.php?t=78539

I personally never really looked at them, if I wanted to see books posted today, I always used the Search function for that very purpose.  And I've recently added receiving a Daily Digest of my favorite categories newly posted books...

No prob June, no offense taken.  Sometimes I don't do well with sudden changes.
