Homeschooling for Excellence Author:David Colfax, Micki Colfax It shows you how you can take charge of your children's education -- in an invaluable sourcebook that will help you find a rewarding and successful alternative to our failing schools.
This was the first homeschooling book I read - and I would recommend it in conjunction with their other book. It was by far one of my favorites because it really shows what homeschooling can be. This book was written before homeschooling was popular, so these parents were pioneers.
I will add that your kid does not need to go to Harvard for homeschooling to be successful - for as long as they can follow their passions, they will succeed.
There is a lot of interesting information in this book, but there are several chapters that are no longer particularly useful as they discuss curriculum and laws circa 1988. It's a decent book, but you'll probably want other books on the topic as well.
"how to take charge of your chid's schooling -- and why you absolutely must" -- the Colfaxes provide accessible, meaty advice on how to homeschool your child(ren). Published in 1988, this volume is still one of the classics on how to home school.
