When Warren Baer finds the dead body of Barney Brodsky in the Oakdale Country Club steam room. Warren's fathe, Ed, is alarmed. Ed baer, who made his first appearance in Resnicow's The Dead Room (Dodd, Mead, 1987), is counting on his son Warren to marry beautiful young Lee Guralnick and to produce six beautiful blond grandchildren sometime soon. Never mind that Lee is daughter of Ed's chief golf rival, Iris Guranick.
Having his son become entangled in a murder investigation at the county club is not part of Ed's plans. Neither is having the gyn manager, Bill Carey, who had expected his planned new health club to be funded by the Baer's venture capital company, Nassau Ventures, becomes the prime suspect.
Ed and Warren decide to launch thier own investigation into the death of Bearney Brodsky, knowing that, should the solve the case, the police will take all the credit. But what nither Ed nor Warren realizes is how many poeple there are who wouldn't have minded Barney Brodsky out of the way-among them several of Brodsky's close business associates.
