I have a copy of Amy Bloom's Away that is WL'd.  It had timed out several times and not been accepted, one request was accepted and then cancelled by the requester.  Anyway, my DHs grandmother passed away yesterday, so we are leaving town for the next week for the funeral.  I will not have access to a computer while we are gone.  The book is still waiting on a member to accept the book.  I am wanting to put my account on hold, but it looks like I will still need to mail the book in the normal time frame.  How long to I have to say that I can mail the book?  We will be back on Friday.

Thanks!
Cassie

If you put your account on hold and this next person rejects it or lets it time out, then from what I understand, your WL book will then go on hold as well. It will not be offered to another person until you unhold everything.

Someone please correct me if that is wrong, but that's what I've understood from other posts here.

That's how it has worked for me.  I frequently put my account on hold and just unhold it to post WL books.  I've had to unhold my account before because a book was declined or timed out and didn't get offered to the next person in line.  I also did this once when I had a book cycling through WLers before an upcoming vacation and there was no longer going to be time for me to mail the book out if it went to another peson.  It timed out and I just deleted it from my shelf while it was still on hold.  I reposted it after my vacation.

Other then that you get 5 days to accept a book request.  If you have to: put your account on vacation hold-if the one that's pending does get accepted at the last minute and you have to let it time out-it shouldn't affect your account too much.  PBS will be able to see that you put your account on vacation and that the request went through others WLers and timed out or was declined.  You will have to repost the book when you come back. If it gets accepted and times out then they'll go back to #1.

I would also put in my profile that you had a family emergency and had to go out of town at short notice.

If it doesn't get accepted until tomorrow then you might still be good for a Friday acceptance.  It gives 5 full days plus X number of hours left in the day requested depending on the time they accepted the WL offer.  I know had requests today and it said you have 5 days and x # of hours to accept this request.

And also, if it does get accepted, if you could log on at any point in those five days, just for a moment, and click the "I can mail in more than 2 days' button, and then set a time frame for after you get back home, you'd be alright.

Once they accept  the offer you will have 5 days to say you can mail it. Then if you select [I can mail later] it will give you another 5 days to mail it, plus 2 more to mark it mailed. So with access once in those first 5 days, you'd be able to have 12 days from the day you accept the request to mark it mailed in the system.
