Andrews opens with a chapter explaining what reincarnation is. Unfortunately, he only offers a single interpretation of reincarnation, almost telling the reader what they need to believe in order for reincarnation to be real. He goes on to explain the different kinds of karma, which I think he did a good job interpreting for people who are unfamiliar or only familiar with a westernized interpretation. I also liked his explanation of karmic connections, soul mates, and twin souls.

Following these introductions and explanations of concepts, Andrews presents different ways to discover ones past lives. These techniques include: writing and imagination exercises, guided meditations, a new age interpretation of moving through the Tree of Life, hypnosis, and dowsing/pendulums.

At the end, he closes with "Rites of Passage", explaining that death is a right of passage into rebirth. He warns the reader at the end (and throughout the book) that one should be careful while interpreting "past lives". He states that a healthy dose of skepticism should be observed. Andrews suggests that the importance of past lives shouldn't be measured in whether or not they were true, so much as the lessons that can be learned from them. He also notes that when exploring past lives one should be careful not to let the past become more important than the present life.
