I love Alan Dean Foster, but some books, like this one are better understood if you read the stories written about the same aliens/timeline before this one.
If you have read them, then this is a welcome continuing story, kind of like Star Trek or Star Wars.

This is a story in the Humanx Commonwealth series, and as usual, Foster has brought us new and interesting aliens to get to know....

Pulickel was a cultural troubleshooter for the Commonwealth government. A bit of a loner, he was used to going in and getting things straightened out on his own. But this was going to be a very different assignment. First, he was assigned to work with the gorgeous Fawn Seaforth. Then, he was going to have to work with a race that didn't honestly want much to do with him. And finally, he was about to meet up with a force that didn't really care how good he was at his job. It really wasn't supposed to be happening this way....but the universe really wasn't interested in his opinion!

Good characters, lots of action, plenty of fun once it gets going. Part of a long running series, but it is not necessary to read previous books to enjoy this one.
