I REALLY! liked this book. It is the first book I have given a 9 and I would pass it on to someone I know and love rather then reposting it but I figured I would share.
It is a novella and a series of short stories about Chinese American families. The stories are all told in the first person by some member of the family. The characters are good and the stories are true to life experiences. The focus is on the trials and tribulations that any family faces with the added perspective of struggling with American vs. Chinese cultural norms
I hope you enjoy it too.

A collection of 5 surreal novellas that blur legend and reality. Love, pain, and death are big themes. Part social commentary, part magical realism bonanza.

Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.

Winner of the Bay Area Reveiwers Association Prize for First Fiction.

Finalist for the 1999 Second Annual Asian American Literary Awards.
