Jones recounts his own version of the event in "The Royal McBob." In "A Hippie Dippie Bird Hunt", Jones gives a hilarious account of teaching hippies in a 1970s New Mexico commune to shoot. Despite their broken promise to be sober, he finds they are excellent shots. The Hunter in My Heart is also a homage to the beloved Labrador retriever; no one writes more eloquently about these canines and their genius as bird dogs.
