Very good book, the story about the orphanage really made me cry...highly recommended, especially if you are a history buff and love reading about the hurricane that happened in Galveston in 1900.

Janice Thompson researched extinsively on the large hurricaine that devestated Galveston, TX in 1900. She's written a gripping story of this disaster as seen through the eyes of a newspaper reporter who returns home. In the midst of the catastrophe Janice has woven the message of hope.

I received this book and read it in one day. Not because it was particularly gripping, but because I gave up reading it about halfway through. Other people here have stated that the author did extensive research in order to write this historical fictional novel, with a Christian angle too. I would have to disagree, because I noticed at least two glaring errors that stuck out like a sore thumb (it would be spoilers for me to list them here). I would have to say this book is for anyone who likes to read Christian fiction, or for perhaps people who have never experienced firsthand a hurricane in real life. This "historical fiction" book is heavy on the fiction and very light-handed with the historical aspects.

The book puts you right there: before, during and after. You feel the pain of the people and you want them so badly to survive.

"It is so important to review history for accuracy. HURRICANE provides an excellent learning tool."

Living in Central Florida we know all too well the effects that Hurricanes bring and this story was just too real for me.

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a great book about the horrific outcome of the 1900 hurricane. The story is laid out through the events that 5 main characters endure and how they handle all the very difficult situations that they were placed into the day of and in the days after the hurricane and flooding. Very touching.

It was too simplistic for me. The characters and situations felt flat. Perhaps it's because I've lived this and lost a few friends. I felt that the author was only speaking from an outside perspective.
