Hold onto your hair this is Evanovichs first foray into a real historical novel! This book opens in the New York City of 1894. It is an era of new wealth in America; young ladies are looking to marry into privileged old money (people who have been wealthy for generations) or Old World prestige (marrying one of the titled gentry of Europe).

I cant believe Evanovich did anything more than lend her name; the story is so unlike her style. Theres none of Evanovichs madcap style or legendary humor. This story just is. Some of the dialog is downright laughable (and not in a good way).

I also believe that it is Dorien Kellys writing because the main characters, Jack and Caroline actually spend time getting to know each other before hopping into bed. It also takes them more than 10 minutes to fall in love; Evanovich would never let things stew that long.

This plot is so overworked that it is sad to see it dredged up again. Carolines mother and Lord Bremerton seem to be cardboard characters shes too stupid to be believed and the Lord is too evil to be realistic.

The last several books Ive read by Evanovich have been trite and corny with pitiful plots; I think Ive read my last Evanovich book.
