Ever since I read Sarah Wheeler's "Terra Incognita" I've been interested in writings about the South Pole. about the South Pole. This book contains one such essay-not anywhere near as compelling as Wheeler's recollection, nor as lyrical or mystic. None of the other essays in this collection are compelling either. I was especially disappointed in the essay about mountain lions and I LOVE mountain lions. I just don't care for this author. Not my style.
